Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
Rest well, our dearest Michelle.

The Story of a Life

Michelle
Chanice Mwende

Today, we gather with heavy hearts, yet with deep gratitude to God for the life of Michelle Chanice Mwende — a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece and friend to so many.

Michelle was born on the 26th of April, 2004and was called home on the 25th of February, 2026 — a precious gift whose presence brought warmth, gentleness and quiet joy into the lives of all who knew her. Though her time with us was far too short, her life was full of meaning, love and beautiful memories that will remain with us forever.

Early Education

Our Lady of Peace
& St. Christopher’s

Michelle began her early years at Our Lady of Peace Primary School in Karen, from nursery through to Standard 4. She then continued at St. Christopher’s International School, where she studied from Year 4 to Year 13.

It was there that her character blossomed — she grew not only academically but also in confidence, courage and leadership. From being a shy young girl, she rose to contest for the top presidential position in her school — a true testament to her strength and belief that with God, nothing is impossible.

Who She Was

Kind, Calm,
Deeply Thoughtful

Michelle was a truly special soul — kind, calm, loving and deeply thoughtful. She was the kind of person who listened more than she spoke, who brought peace rather than conflict. She had a rare gift of choosing friends wisely and building meaningful, lasting relationships.

She was also beautifully creative. Michelle loved art — she expressed herself through drawing and found joy in creating. Music was part of her everyday life; she could not take a shower without singing along, knowing songs word for word. Her love for stories and novels began from a young age — books were her treasured companions and novels were always the best gift she could receive.

Western Australia

In July 2023, Michelle joined the University of Western Australia to pursue a degree in Biomedical Science. She carried with her a bright mind, a hopeful spirit and dreams of making a difference in the world.

Her dream was to become a children’s doctor — which showed just how caring and selfless she truly was. She found joy in simple and meaningful things — swimming, going on adventures and spending time with those she loved. And at home, she always expressed her love in the most beautiful ways, even through something as simple as making pancakes.

Faith

A Devoted
Catholic Christian

Michelle was a devoted Catholic Christian. She was baptised, received her First Holy Communion and later the Sacrament of Confirmation at Regina Caeli Catholic Church in Karen. Her faith was not just something she practiced — it was something she lived.

She believed firmly that nothing is impossible with God and held onto that belief through every stage of her life. She testified to His healing power, believing He healed her from asthma as a young child and guided her through her personal growth and transformation.

Her Family

Above all, Michelle loved her family deeply.

She was a cherished daughter to Hellen Muthoni Njiru, a loving sister to Stella Adlike Njura and Wilson John Muriuki and a dear sister-in-law to Oleg Bukrev and Evarline Wambui. She was a proud and loving aunt to Hazel Nia Muthoni and Blane Gichuki, a cousin, a niece and a friend to many. Her presence in the family was one of warmth, unity, and quiet strength.

“Michelle, you were deeply loved and you will forever be missed. Your light will continue to shine in our hearts, in our memories and in the love you left behind.” — From the Family

Words of Love

Tributes

Those who loved her most speak here — in their own words, with their own grief and with a love that does not end.

Hellen Muthoni

Mother

My dearest daughter, Michy Mwesh, Sweety — today, I stand with a heart full of love and deep sorrow as I remember you. In your 21 years, you brought so much light into my life. You were calm, always smiling and your quiet happiness filled our home with peace.

You were so talented; your artwork was a gift — the way you could look at someone and draw them so beautifully. You loved your little baby pink world and it reflected your gentle and loving heart. You also loved music so deeply; you knew every song word for word and you brought songs to life in such a special way.

You were not just my daughter — you were my confidant and my best friend. You stood by me in everything; helping me with my work, my emails and so many responsibilities. You were my strength. On every trip, you were my partner, my roommate, my joy.

I remember how I used to call you my “handbag,” and how you loved it. People would even ask where my handbag was if I came without you. And you would always hold my hand like a little baby, all through your life. That love we shared was so special.

You grew from a quiet girl into a strong and confident young woman. You made me so proud and your dream of becoming a children’s doctor showed just how caring and selfless you were. Though my heart aches, I find comfort in knowing you are resting in God’s presence, where there is no pain, only peace. Until we meet again — I love you endlessly.

Revelation 21:4 — “He will wipe every tear from their eyes.”

Stella Adlike

Sister

Dear Sis — I will always love you. Our dear last-born — I remember how your arrival brought us all so much joy, how your birth reunited our family in a beautiful new way as we all fell completely in love with our precious baby.

After I left overseas and we spent time apart, I was so grateful to reconnect when you came to Australia. The two and a half years we lived together mean everything to me. During that time, we truly came to know one another — to learn, to grow, and to build a bond I will cherish forever. I’m so thankful I had the chance to tell you, and to show you, just how deeply I loved you.

It’s so hard to keep going without you.

We shared so many dreams — dreams I held for you and for us. I dreamed of seeing you graduate, of watching you get married, and of seeing you have children of your own.

Mama… it feels like you left us far too soon.

But I promise you this — I will keep your memory alive. You made such a positive and lasting impact on my life, and that will never fade.

I will miss your laughter, and that infectious smile that could light up a room. I will miss how you always listened, how you were always there. I will miss your wisdom, your presence, and the comfort you brought simply by being you.

When you joined me in Australia, something inside me felt safe in a way I can’t fully explain. Having you here gave me strength and reassurance, and I will always hold onto that feeling.

It has been a month since you left us, yet the pain still feels as raw as if it happened only moments ago. We miss you so deeply, sweetheart.

We love you. And while it’s so hard to imagine life without you, we find comfort in believing you are in a better place. Please watch over us.

Until we meet again, my baby. I will always love you — my dear sister, my baby.

Wilson Muriuki

Brother

Michelle, I still remember how excited I was when I heard I was going to be your big brother. Your arrival was one of the happiest days of my life. You brought me so much joy growing up — especially in those early days when you believed I was your baby, and we held onto that little story for so long until you discovered I was actually your elder brother.

Every time you were around, I found myself turning into a comedian with my dry jokes — all just to see your beautiful smile and those dimples light up.

I wish we could celebrate more milestones together — see you graduate, build your career and become the billionaire you always dreamed of. But God had better plans and we pray you are in a better place.

You’ve left us far too soon, siz, but I will forever be grateful for the time God gave us with you. Your humility, love and caring heart taught me so much. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, lil siz — and I will forever miss you. This is not goodbye, it’s a see you later.

Psalm 34:18 — “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

The Aunts

Aunties

With hearts weighed by sorrow, yet softened by gratitude to God, we, the aunts of Michelle Chanice Mwende, honour the life of our beloved niece with love, tenderness, and affection. Mwende was a precious gift to this family. Her presence carried warmth, grace, and a certain loveliness of spirit that cannot be forgotten.

We remember Mwende as a niece who brought light into family moments without effort. She had gentleness in her manner, dignity in her conduct, and kindness in the way she related to others. She greeted people with respect, carried herself with modesty, and left an impression of goodness wherever she went. Moyo wake ulikuwa mpole na wenye heshima.

As aunts, we cherished the promise we saw in her. She pursued her university studies with determination and hope — carrying not only personal ambition, but also the dreams and prayers of many who loved her. It pains us that she was called from this world in the early bloom of her life and studies, before her gifts had fully been revealed before our eyes.

What remains with us most tenderly is the kind of young woman Mwende was becoming — growing into herself with grace, intelligence, and maturity. She bore promise in a beautiful way, not with noise, but with steadiness. That is why her absence is so painful. We are not only mourning who she was to us; we are also grieving the fine woman she was on her way to becoming.

We do not speak of Mwende only through tears. We speak of her with love, with pride, and with thanksgiving to God for the grace He placed in her life. We believe that the God whom Mwende loved has received her with mercy, and that the light she carried on earth now rests in His eternal peace.

Dear Mwende, beloved niece — your memory is rich with beauty. Your smile, your faith, your gentleness, and your goodness will remain with us. You are deeply loved, and you will be dearly missed. Rest in eternal peace, dear child of grace.

Matthew 5:8 — “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

The Uncles

Uncles

As Michelle Chanice Mwende’s uncles, we speak today from hearts that ache, yet also from hearts made richer by the blessing of having known our beloved niece. We fondly remember Mwende as a niece of rare grace, whose life, though far too brief, carried joy, dignity, and promise.

There was something beautifully refreshing in her presence. She did not need to command attention, because her goodness spoke for her. Tabasamu lake lilikuwa la kweli — warm, sincere, and full of life. We, Simon, Joseph, Titus, Jenadio and Tarcisio, fondly remember a beloved niece who treated everyone with respect and moved through life with admirable humility.

Mwende was also a niece of great promise — devoted to her studies with seriousness and hope. We looked upon her with pride, for she represented discipline, aspiration, and a future full of possibility. We too remember the depth of her faith. She was a baptised and confirmed Catholic Christian who cherished her faith and the sacraments. She enjoyed drawing and art, and even there her hands found ways to serve God — including the making of rosaries and church sacramentals. In her life, faith was not an ornament. It was part of the fabric of her being.

As we say in Swahili, mema hayaozi — goodness does not perish. Mwende’s goodness remains with us, in memory, in love, and in the lasting impression of a life that was gentle, faithful, and full of grace.

Rest in eternal peace, dear Mwende. You are a blessing to this family, and you will remain precious to us always.

John 11:25 — “I am the resurrection and the life.”

The Cousins

Cousins

Mitchell — someone so special, so full of life, and so deeply loved by all of us. You were a light in our family. Ever smiling, always warm, and effortlessly kind. Your presence brought comfort, your joy was contagious, and your spirit had a way of lifting everyone around you. And when you smiled, those beautiful dimples would appear — small, simple, yet so unforgettable, making your smile even more radiant and full of life.

And then there was your laughter — so distinct, so genuine, so unforgettable. It wasn’t just laughter, it was joy in its purest form. It filled rooms, drew people closer, and has left a lasting imprint in our hearts.

The memories we shared — the laughter, the conversations, the simple moments — those are treasures we will hold onto forever. Though your time with us feels far too short, we are grateful. Grateful for your life, for your love, and for the blessing of having known you. You made a difference simply by being you.

And now we are left standing in a place words cannot reach, asking the question that weighs so heavily in our hearts — how do we say goodbye? How do we say goodbye to a light that refused to dim? To a smile that carried us through our hardest days? To those beautiful dimples that made every smile unforgettable? To a laugh so distinct, so alive, which felt like pure joy echoing through our souls?

We carry your laughter in our hearts, your faith in our spirits, and your light in our lives. We release you — not because we are ready, but trusting that God, whom you loved so deeply, now holds you in perfect peace.

Until we meet again, dear sweet Mitchell — rest well. You will forever be loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.

Psalm 34:18 — “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Marie Wanja

Best Friend

We often talk about people being “bubbly,” but Michelle redefined it. She was a constant source of energy, someone who was genuinely happy to see you every single time. She had a smile that didn’t just light up a room — it was contagious. You couldn’t be in a bad mood around her for long; she simply wouldn’t allow it.

Beyond the joy, there was a deep, rare steadiness to her. She was a good listener in a world where everyone is waiting for their turn to speak. Michelle was truly there. Whether it was a small daily update or a massive life crisis, she was the person you could rely on. She was the one who answered the call.

Michelle, sitting down to write this felt impossible. It wasn’t the plan. We had weddings to attend together and nieces and nephews for you to meet. It feels wild and wrong that there are questions we won’t get answers to.

But if there is one thing I want everyone here to know, it’s how proud I am of you. You overcame so much. You worked so hard for the life you wanted. Even though we didn’t get to achieve everything we planned, what you did achieve and the person you became was more than enough. You were remarkable.

We never liked pretending, so I won’t pretend this is okay. It hurts. But we carry that contagious smile with us now. To remember Michelle is to remember to be reliable, to listen well, and to find a reason to be happy, even when it’s hard.

Thank you for being my person. I love you.
